If you didn't live on the west coast in the 60s and 70s, the only time you hears of Bunker Spreckels was when he died in 1977 from a drug over dose. And the only reason he was noteworthy was because his stepfather was the late great Clark Gable.

 

Adolph Spreckels III - nicknamed "Bunker" because he once reclused in a Pillbox Shack in Hawaii - was a phenomenon in the surfer world.
